05 - Standards
Created Wednesday 13 March 2024
Core Standards for Stringing
- Pin heights are uniform. Bottom coils are about 1/4" above plate or open pinblock
- Pins have 2.5 to 3 .5 wire turns
- Turns are tight with no gaps
- Becket is well formed and penetrates nearly all of the becket hole
- Top turn on the pin bisects the becket hole on the back side.
- String sits flat on the plate at the hitch pin
- The two sides of double strings leave the hitch pin parallel
Core Standards for single string termination
- Nice tight turns around the wire (at least three)
- Turns oriented so that tail sits flat on the plate preventing rotation
- Loop fits snug around the hitch pin
- Loop sits down on the plate
Beyond the basics
- Showroom gleam
- Wire bends at termination points
- Becket alignment
- Plate refinishing
- Bridge cap replacement
- Pinblock replacement
- Soundboard replacement
