05 - Standards

Created Wednesday 13 March 2024

Core Standards for Stringing

  • Pin heights are uniform. Bottom coils are about 1/4" above plate or open pinblock
  • Pins have 2.5 to 3 .5 wire turns
  • Turns are tight with no gaps
  • Becket is well formed and penetrates nearly all of the becket hole
  • Top turn on the pin bisects the becket hole on the back side.
  • String sits flat on the plate at the hitch pin
  • The two sides of double strings leave the hitch pin parallel

Core Standards for single string termination

  • Nice tight turns around the wire (at least three)
  • Turns oriented so that tail sits flat on the plate preventing rotation
  • Loop fits snug around the hitch pin
  • Loop sits down on the plate

Beyond the basics

  • Showroom gleam
  • Wire bends at termination points
  • Becket alignment
  • Plate refinishing
  • Bridge cap replacement
  • Pinblock replacement
  • Soundboard replacement
